4/6 - again!
I expressed my doubts on how I only have so many treatments left in my package, and the last treatment I had which was on ‘the yang’ didn’t seem to work and felt pointless.
Well I went in this week for my next treatment. We discussed how ‘the yang’ didn’t seem to do anything for me, so I’m going back to the old laser.
I was test patched on 8, 10 and 12volts. As you recall the 12 made me pigment on my legs and, on my arms caused a few burns which faded eventually.
When I had the test patches, the 8 seemed like nothing, with the 10 I felt something and the 12 kinda hurt.
A couple of days later I came in and they decided to do the laser treatment on 10 volts, which I thought was the right decision.
I haven’t had a treatment in a long time in which the laser actually hurt, so I kinda felt nervous. On my legs, it hurt at the beginning but then it passed.
On my arms it seemed to hurt slightly more, mainly because my arms are quite thin so it hurt when they touched the bone.
But this was all good as I had my favourite woman – Nadia. Nadia decided to do all my treatments from now, as my treatment process has been a bit of a rollercoaster and it doesn’t help when I’m being treated from different people all the time. This seemed like good timing as I was going to request from now on, as I trust her to do the best for me and I have great conversations with her.
Oh and good news – since ‘the yang’ didn’t work, Nadia is disregarding it, so it doesn’t count as a treatment. So you will understand my heading now, this is now considered as my fourth treatment out of six. So I have two left and all I can hope for, is that is all I will have left.

Worries...?
I've got two treatments left and on my last post I said I didn't feel a thing on my last treatment and because of that I felt it wasn't working.
Since my last treatment my hair has grown back loads on my arms/underarms. I've shaved my arms once since the treatment cos I had to wear a sleeveless top to a party. I haven't shaved since then and have still quite a bit of hair. I mean it's not like I'm back to my full growth but still it's daunting to know how this is all going to pan out.
When I first had laser treatment I didn't even have to shave once, my hair never really grew until my third treatment.
As with my legs, the hair never grew back. My only down side was when I pigmented. So I was put onto the yang for my legs also. Although, my hair hasn't grown back like my arms/underarms have on my legs, but I can see them starting to come through. It will take a while but they will come through eventually.
So technically my hair wasn't growing back with the old laser - yey - BUT it gave me pigmentation. And I think I asked a woman if I stick with the old laser but the temperature below the one that pigmented me, would I have better results still? But I recall her saying it could still pigment me as this has shown those lasers will do that to me, but 'the yang' is designed is designed for my skin tone.
Even though it's designed for my skin tone, I don't feel like I'm going to get the results I hoping for.
Even though this blog is to help give people an insight to laser hair removal, I guess what you have to remember to take into consideration - is my skin tone! It may not be as complicated for lighter skin tones, as it has been with me.

4/6
First we started on my legs and then onto my arms and underarms.
My god – I mean I could have gone to sleep cos it felt like nothing was happening. I couldn’t feel the laser at all, I mean I’ve have people pinch me that made want to run out and flip a car over from the pain.
You may be thinking this is a good thing right? But I don’t know; I couldn’t feel an ounce of feeling that it made me wonder whether it was even working. Even more so as it seemed like forever cos I was getting all my areas treated and I had the woman who doesn’t really talk so the time wasn’t passing itself by.
Well actually I’m lying cos I did feel something from the treatment – the freezing air that comes out of the gun. I was basically half naked and have someone freeze me to death. I mean the air is to help your skin cool down from the laser, but since the laser didn’t even seen to do anything, there was no need for the air.
So after all this I just thought to myself, I’ve had my fourth treatment and it seemed like a waste. I've paid for six treatments, so what if my hair starts growing back – meaning the yang isn’t working and my time is running out.
And I don’t want to have to pay more but at this rate it seems likely.
Cos lets face it, it can be a painful to be beautiful – but I didn’t go through pain, so am I beautiful?
The Yang
The yang wasn’t really different from the other laser equipment, except when used the laser is green rather then red.
Since my body is having attitude problems against the powerful lasers, these patch tests were taken to show like therapy for my body, to see if it reacts well and lets the laser into its home – to destroy all the hair follicles!

Update Pt.2
I have been using my skin lightening cream on my pigmented areas on my legs, and it was expected that I should see results within two weeks.
Twice a day (morning and night) I slapped that cream on my legs with a positive attitude. I kept applying it everyday trying not to always check the area as it would just keep hounding my mind – this can be difficult as you have to look at the area as your applying the cream everyday.
Within a week it seemed to be making progress but I didn’t get too excited as I just thought to myself this cream is only here to lighten it rather than get rid of. But as it became close to two weeks the pigmentation was so light, you wouldn’t even notice anything had been there.
From today it has been two and half weeks and the cream has finished and my pigmentation it pretty much gone. There is only a tiniest amount on my leg but I’m really happy with the results.
The only thing that seems to be freaking me out now is , this means I can carry on with my leg treatment - you may be thinking this sounds like a good thing – yes it is, its just I’m scared if this happens again. Will this mean I have to stick to a lower temperature? Which has been working fine so far for my legs (no so much for my arms) but will it be high enough to complete my six treatments?
-----------------
As for my arms – my hair growth is rapid. I haven’t shaved since my last visit to Sk:n to see the comparison of my hair growth and the small test patches I had of the higher temperature.
Out of the four test patches I had, I received burns from three of them – which doesn’t seem like its heading in the right direction. So as usual I applied my burn cream on the areas. But after a week they didn’t go away but seemed lighter. I then stopped putting the burn cream on – I guess from laziness. But within two weeks the burns went away. In spite of all this, there has not been any hair growth on those areas.
This gets me thinking - I received three out of four burns from a higher temperature, the same temperature that caused me to pigment on my legs. On just these small areas I did have treated, the burns took two weeks to fully go away. Even though its doing its job as the hair hasn’t grown back, this may mean using this higher temperature may burn my whole arm.
During the couple of weeks the burns has shown they do fade, but do the circumstances stay the same when it’s your whole arm?
This is a cringe worthy situation I have here…

Update…
Don’t get me wrong, the higher the temperature doesn’t always mean better results. Although lower temperatures are better for lighter toned skin not darker.
Any hoo to put this in perspective, I had 12 volts on my legs which caused me to pigment. The few zaps, I did have, on my arms were also 12 volts, which has already shown to burn me* but not severely - but then again this was only an area, not the full arm. And the maximum temperature is 16 volts.
So my legs are reacting great as the hair doesn’t even grow – but I’ve pigmented.
And my arms haven’t pigmented on these high temperatures, but its not attacking the root.
Hmm…a pickle indeed!
Oh yeah cant remember if I mentioned this, but keep meaning to, its best if you don’t wear dark colours when getting treated as the laser thrives for it. Think of it like the sun, brighter colours reflect and darker colours absorb.*
* but hey that’s what I have my burn cream for
* haha I sound like a physics teacher
4th treatment – sort of!?
But before we got started I mentioned that lately the hairs on my arms are growing more rapidly than usual. My hair is really fine and not really noticeable to anyone but myself but thought I would mention it.
They mentioned before during the six week period you may need to shave a couple times, but I would barely even need to shave once. So this was a good sign. But in the past weeks leading to my next treatment once I shave the hairs are immediately coming back.
As I mentioned this to Nadia (my favourite) seemed worried. I didn’t think it was a big deal, but then it made sense. If my hair is constantly growing that means the laser isn’t attacking the root. But because my skin tone is darker, the laser dosage is hard to define; there can be Asian girls who are so pale they can go on the lowest setting and come out perfect.
So they decided to give me a patch test using a higher dosage on a couple of areas on my arms, which means they would postpone my treatment to another six weeks to see how I have reacted to a higher temperature. I only had eight zaps (four on each arm) and it stung like hell!! I was already starting to go red.
________________
So after all this fiasco, I thought I would mention my pigmentation problem. As I showed Nadia and another woman they said it was pigmentation and the other woman said it may have been caused from sun exposure, but I never have exposed my legs outside, I only really wear shorts when I go to bed. Then they were puzzled and said they can never tell when it will happen. I asked if it was because it upped the anti of the temperature but she said that wouldn’t have really made a difference. It may be because of my skin tone as it is hard to define. And the main reason I was doing this was because it was an opportunity for darker toned people.
I said it was worse but had lightened up to an extent. She gave me some skin lightening cream, which I apply twice a day and I should expect to notice results within a couple of weeks. I asked if it looked as though it would completely go away and she said yes but it is a long process, it can take up to six months. *
But she said I couldn’t have treatment on the area in case, well basically so I don’t awaken the angry beast of my pigmentation and have it torment me further. So I have to wait until it pretty goes away before I can have further treatment – so much for my do my legs every six weeks and have them down faster plan!
* gulp, cry, sniffle

Ohmygod Pt. 2
So I went running like a mad woman for my burn cream and rubbed it on. The inner thigh area seemed to make progress as the marks were beginning to crack, like when your tan is starting to peal off, although it looked like this for a while, never fully gone.
I then realised every time something like this happens, people always tell you to exfoliate, so this is what I done. It turned out to be a good idea, as I was doing it was like dirt was coming off my legs.
So I thought to myself, should I phone Sk:n and ask for it to be checked out, but I came to the conclusion I would just keep exfoliating and applying my burn cream on as it seems to be effective. And if it doesn’t get better or if I feel worried, I would be seeing them the week after anyway to have my next treatment on my arms.
As days passed the inner thigh areas became so much better, there are still there but have faded. So I figure if I keep applying the cream it will go away. However, the back of my thighs seem to have lightened up but to a little extent.
So I guess all those thoughts about whether this is worth it, has kinda came around to bite in the ass!
Ohmygod! Ohmygod!
Before I open up about my tragic problem, lets recap shall we. I had my third treatment on my legs, in which I anteed the laser dosage, which can be said, was excruciating! I mentioned how it really hurt on the backs of my knees and thighs and I particular liked the bit where I left the centre with a pins and needles burning sensation. Oh but folks, the pain didn’t end there, no that would be, well just plain old lucky!
Any hoo, you remember how I said I had noticed some burn marks from what shall now be referred to as ‘the mother have mercy on us all’ treatment on my legs; those ‘burn marks’ didn’t turn out to be ‘burn marks’, oh no, they only turned out to be the ‘p’ word!
No not paprika! Yes it was…it was…PIGMENTATION! –OH MY GOD IVE SAID IT! *
And then I remembered, in the beginning stages they did mention the thighs were the most common place people tend to pigment.
So you can see now, that my problem is in fact – tragic!
* break down in tears

Post treatment
So word to the wise, if you can’t handle the temperature – speak up cos you will end up with burns even if you think you are speeding up the hair removal process.
________
At times I feel having this is nearly as bad as plastic surgery, I mean what have we become in this society?
Although I only tend to feel this way when I’m actually getting the treatment, cos as I suffer from the pain, the question always pops in my head – is this worth it?
But I only ask this one day out of the all the weeks in between my treatments cos on the rest of the days I’m admiring my new hair free skin. And then I think, there are only a few more treatments left and I won’t have that odd day where I think if it is worth it cos I will feel that happy in my skin everyday after this is over.
So for once, something is worth the pain!
3/6 Pt.2
Oh but I can tell you, it was one of the most painful experiences of my life.
I figured it would just hurt on the bone areas like normal. But when she started on my thigh which isn’t the bony area of my legs...and it was painful, I dreaded for my bony areas.
I immediately felt the pain and remembered the breathing technique. So I breathed the hell out f my lungs. It actually worked, but cos the pain was so constant, I had to breathe harder. And I was doing it so much I started to get a really bad headache, but it was also due to the fumes from the laser machine. It never was a problem before, but when you’re sucking in every molecule of air in your body, you can get more than you bargained for. And this headache was becoming so bad I started to feel sick.
The most painful areas were my knees and at the backs of my knees and the bony areas, well the back of my thighs hurt a bit also, I didn’t know if it was because I got lazy when shaving and missed a few hairs, cos when they are long it can hurt. So in other words it hurt everywhere.
After my treatment she did a patch test on the bottom of my leg using an even higher temperature to see if my body reacts ok to it, but considering how this treatment made me feel, I don’t think I’ll be on that temperature any time soon! I was bugging when she said it, I thought it would make me shoot of my seat, even though it was only a patch test. It was only a couple of zaps but it felt like fire.
After the treatment it was really painful on the backs of my knees and the backs of my thighs. And that patch test area didn’t feel to heavenly ether.
It felt like pin and needles with a burning sensation to it.
I’m surprised I wasn’t walking funny; people would have thought I had an eventful previous night, if you know what I mean.

3/6
I mentioned about one thing that keeps pondering my mind, being how much it will hurt when they increase the juice. The woman I had didn’t mention if she increased it or not but it went well.
I think it was mainly due to two things: I had one of my favourite ladies treating me*. But I highly recommend if you plan on getting treatment in Newcastle, North East, England, you should ask for Nadia*. She is such a great person to talk to, which brings me to my second reason that helped me through this treatment. She kept me chatting every single second, the next thing I knew it was over and best thing of all, I didn’t feel a thing-honest. I guess having the gift of gab isn’t always a bad thing.
She said my arms look fab and they are reacting really well and how she is jealous of my lush NATURAL colour; sorry do I keep saying that!?
I asked if I was okay about me doing my legs every six weeks instead of eight weeks and she said of course and everyone usually does six anyway but a couple of them must do eight.
So it looks like I’m going for six weeks, cos sooner is so much more preferable.
Makes me think, if I did all my treatments six weeks from the beginning, that would have been a lot to take in just one day, so guess it works out the best since I started my legs later, cos I get to have some breathing time in between.
*I never know what to call them cos their not exactly beauticians and far from surgeons…ah well, you know what I mean.
*and no she is nothing like the Big Brother winner.

No Worries
Well they have faded, eventually, but to speed up the process I used my help of my good my…Bio-Oil.
I’ve known about the product for a while and heard a friend saying she uses it, and I mean…it works! I wonder if it would work if pigmentation did occur, cos lets face it, it would relieve many minds.
And regards to my spots, they have basically gone…PHEW. But the aftermath still remains. I have marks from where they used to be, but they are very faint…maybe this should be another case for our trusted friends Bio-Oil to solve!

Freaking out
I’ve mentioned before that people can pigment when having this treatment. People can walk away not even having a slight mark while others may find their skin covered in dots.
The unpredictability about all this is that it can happen anytime, you could be close to the finish line but then notice pigmentation surfacing its ugly head, or sometimes it can surface at the beginning giving you a constant paranoia whether it will get worse or better.
Well as if I haven’t been through enough, I woke up one day with a couple of marks on each of my arms. They just look like small bruises the size of a pea. Are couple are light and a couple are dark.
I’m not sure what to make of them because I work at a children play area and I’m always bumping into things, and since I’d been working the day before, it could just be result of my clumsy behaviour. This wouldn’t be unusual for me as its normal to wake up with bruises without having recollection of how they happened. But what seems to worry me is how I have similar marks and both arms, and it seems as though another one is surfacing.
As regards to my spots, they seem to be getting better, but the marks from them all remain.

Need to know facts
I mentioned before for people to watch those discounts. So my next warning is to let you know, if you book an appointment and if you need to change it, you have to give 48 hours notice otherwise they charge you! I don’t know how much this is but circumstances like this is never nice.
So that was my first and my second is more information than warning. Remember when I said how my friend will be so jealous after my lag treatment and I will have soft smooth legs. Well once the treatment is over they will still have that look when you can see all the hair follicles of your palely skin like you do when you shave, BUT eventually the appearance will become satisfactory, as so I am told.
Six weeks instead of eight!
First when I asked about what was the full body package everyone always had a different answer to what it involves.
The woman who has done my last two treatments realised I was getting the full body package and asked why I was getting my arms and legs done separately. When I said it was because I was told the arms take six weeks and the legs take eight weeks. She replied she tends to do them both at the same time, meaning they both get treated every six weeks.
But she mentioned some people may need an extra couple of weeks if their hair growth is slow, but I done think mine is sine I had hair here and there growing back on my legs (which is meant to happen, they tend to grow back in patches.)
Even though I waited eight weeks between my first and second leg treatment my next appointment for my legs is due in six weeks time. I don’t think this is a problem. So if I stick with the ‘everything done in six weeks’ plan, I can be done sooner…YEY!
Second Treatment pt. 2
Well it’s been eight weeks so you know what that means…time for my second treatment on my legs.
I was kinda nervous, since my second treatment part one gave me a reality check about how painful it can get. And it seemed as though I was right about this feeling.
So I go in, take off my pants* and hop onto the table.
As she got started the pain kicked in sooner than I expected. I just figured it was because it was the bony area of my leg, but when I realised the pain wasn’t going away I felt as though it wasn’t gunna be a good day.
I’m not gunna lie, the pain was quite excruciating. It felt never ending. I started to remember when I had my first leg treatment and how the woman told me just before me, a woman was screaming but I handled it really well.
I began to understand how that woman felt, but instead of screaming out load I thought I would just let myself have that front row seat viewing.
I always get paranoid if there is like a secret camera in the room and people can truly see my real expressions before I act all cool when the woman asks if I’m doing okay; I guess that what happens when you live in a society where Big Brother never seems to escape us.
I was in so much pain I actually wanted to stop for a break, but I figured the treatment will still have to go on until completion so I didn’t bother saying anything. And just my luck the woman gets a phone call asking if her colleague can use the room for a few minutes as there was a man whining about how he came all this way, out of his busy schedule to have treatment for his tattoo blah blah* and I couldn’t go into another room as the other machine doesn’t work on low setting, which was what I was on.
The woman apologised, but I was seriously okay about it. Fair enough she remembers this had happened to me before during my last treatment, but unlike many people I have patience and I wasn’t meeting my friend until late anyway. You may feel it looks as though I was a pushover but it wasn’t like that, your only a pushover when your don’t get your own way, and how I saw it, I was having the break I wanted from the pain and I didn’t even have to make a scene about not being able to handle it…bingo!
About 10 minutes later we got back in; it was easy to see where we left off, as the untreated area was the part that wasn’t red. And just think at the beginning the woman was actually considering about kicking the laser up a notch. I mentioned to her how it seems to hurt this time round, and she said it was a good job she didn’t turn up the pressure..dam right!
You could see all my hair follicles inflamed like before, but instead of looking all reptile like as it did with my hands, it was more like large red dots. The woman says this is a good sign so they may not even have to pump up the volume next time I come…woo hoo! Go my hair follicles.
Although this baring in mind, this didn’t stop the pain I was suffering, but I learned a good technique to ease me through it. I decide to go old school. Breathe in the nose and breathe out the mouth. I mean it, it works!* Every time I breathed in, the pain wasn’t there but soon as I breathed out the pain came back so I quickly breathed in again, so I just kept on doing it and the next thing I knew it was over.
* in a non sexy way.
* and they say were the moody gender
* yeah that’s right that is my secret and if anyone else takes credit for my discovery, I want
to see a pay check the next day!

Why am I doing this?
But in all truth I am not doing this to fit in with society. The reason I wanted this so much was, well obviously to feel better about myself but because I’m such a hygienist, the hair made my skin look dark and shaded and since I’ve had this done I can truly look at my skin for what it is.
Especially my legs, even though it’s not finished, I love wearing shorts around the house and not having to worry about whether I need to shave.
When my friend saw my legs after my treatment she asked if my legs would be smooth and clear, not like when you can see all those red dots (hair follicles) afterwards, I said yes and she felt jealous…I mean isn’t that a perk?
Well I’m doing this now and hopefully I feel as good after when it’s over as I do now.

Spot solution
Well I spoke to the woman and she said it is not something to worry about and may be best for me to just exfoliate. I figured it be better if I start exfoliating in a couple days so it doesn’t effect my after care treatment.
So I hope they go away and ill keep you updated.
Watch those discounts!
The worker said it would be £299.00 for her treatment and the client said she paid £230.00 last time. * The worker said there must have been a discount but the client did not recall having any discount.
They looked up at the records are realised during her last treatment there was a discount. The client said she didn’t realise as her just went in one day and she decided to have the treatment.
What to learn from this:
- If you decide on a treatment, remember in my previous blog when I mentioned they often do discounts here and there; make sure you are fully aware of these.
- Also if you realise there is a discount and want a treatment, it may be best off thinking about paying for the full six treatments, instead of just getting discount off one instalment of the six
* I couldn’t help but over hear as the woman was basically standing next to me, but hope it comes of use to you in the future.
Second Treatment
Today I went in for my second instalment for my laser hair treatment on my arms and underarms.
I had a different woman this time. She was so sweet and even had good taste as she liked my shoes and my rolling stones earrings.
So at this point I was feeling pretty good about myself.
She started with my underarms first, I was actually surprised about how much it hurt, because the first time I had it done I didn’t really feel anything. Oh but my lady folks…this was just the beginning.
Maybe all this blogging of my occurrences made me feel somehow more prepared about my next treatments to come, but I now realise it doesn’t really work out that way.
She then started on my lower arms and from my first treatment I remember how it can be painful around the bone area so I tried to ‘woman up’.
As she began it kinda hurt and I was thinking to myself, is it the bone area all ready? I then kinda noticed the pain wasn’t stopping and I then realised it was going to hurt like this throughout.
So as she moved to do my hands, I was thinking if my arms actually hurt this time round, imagine my hands as it was quite painful before, so yeah it was painful there also.
As she moved to my upper arms, I felt kinda relieved as that area is not entirely bony. But with the way the laser was treating me this time, I didn’t know what to expect.
At this point it was becoming a highlight as it did not hurt as much.
Because of some reason, we had to move out of our room to another. I didn’t mind as it kinda gave me time to calm down from having one arm done.
As I as getting up I looked at my hand and parts of my arm and noticed only what I can describe as a bubbly reptile like appearance that has surfaced on my skin…I kid you not! * Oh what a sight!!!
I asked the woman if this was normal, and she said it was. It’s just my hair follicles have inflamed. She said she sees it as a good reaction as it means it is working and reaching the root of the hair.
I then realised it makes sense as the first treatment only goes half way down to your hair and then onwards it starts to reach the root.
She said once she has finished doing my other arm the follicles will go back to normal, which was a major relief.
Even though it was an awful sight to look at I couldn’t keep my eyes off my hand just waiting for it to go away, but I soon began to look away because it was quite repulsive.
Well we moved onto my next arm. It seemed to go much quicker, possibly because I just wanted to go beyond the pain.
I told the woman it was quite strange that all of this is happening when I didn’t even so much go red last time (minus the burns incident). She said it was, especially since they haven’t even boosted up the heat temperature…I dread to think how that will feel now!!
I often feel cold when having the treatment done from the cold air of the machine gun that helps cool your skin. It makes you get goosebumps which is kinda freaky as those goosebumps are your hair follicles that you are attacking.
It is normal to go red afterwards. It has been a few hours and when I look at my arms all my hair follicles are red and it’s a strange thing as you can actually see how many follicles you have.
* Sorry I didn’t take any photos, my brother has taken my camera while he is away…dam brothers. But ill try to get some of my legs if anything peculiar happens (which I hope isn’t the case).

Should have done this sooner!
A woman was getting hair removal treatment on her neck due to a hormonal imbalance.
This video is not of that particular woman but is a demonstration of the treatment and can give you a chance to see what it is like.
This video shows the equipment Sk:n actually uses.
This video shows the process you go through when getting the treatment done.

There back!
It’s May now.
Some of the spots seem to go away here and there but not all of them. It‘s starting to annoy me but I thought I would just mention it when I go in for my next treatment which is not long away.
On the other hand my legs are doing great. Not a peep out of them.
The only problem I guess is that my legs are kinda pasty, so I need to get out in the sun and get my tan back. May sound easy but when you live in the North East of England, the sun usually spends its time far away from us.
Ahhh spots
I noticed that I had a few spots surfacing here and there. There were quite big. So I rang sk:n to ask if it was normal.
The woman said it has nothing to do with the laser treatment; it is something that my skin is doing on its own. They said they have spot creams I can always use but it shouldn't be something to worry about.
I then I started to think why this is happening, I came to the conclusion of it occurring from the burn cream. The first time I ever put it on my first observation was of how greasy it was. As my pores are being opened for the first time on my arms, as I have never done anything to my old hair, the greasiness of the cream was getting into pores making spots surface.
I thought I would try my usual method, wait and see. If the spots get worse then go see sk:n or maybe they will just go away on their own and I won’t have to worry about it.
The spots eventually went away…yey!
First hair falls out!
When I had the hair removal on my armpits the hair was just starting to come through. The hair was singed which is normal. I hadn’t shaved my hair off since the treatment as I thought I will wait until they fall out so I don’t interfere with the process.
My hair hadn’t grown since the treatment, but I wanted to shave them anyway. As I felt the remaining hair, a couple of strands fell out. I then started to stroke the hairs and pulling them out and they just came out. No fuss no pain.
It was the first time I kinda felt happy about all this.
Burns please go away!
Around about 9 days later the burns seem to be fully gone…finally! I feel relived.
It just felt like something was going wrong when I only started. As with anything that means something to you, there are risks involved. I would have been pretty bummed out if they didn’t go away, mainly because it could have easily been prevented from the beginning.

Am I going to be ok?
She looked at them and said that should not have happened and then asked me whether my arm hair was long. I told her that they were and I was told I could still get the treatment but it would be slightly more painful.
She said because the hair was long it caused the skin to burn and the previous woman should have shaved them.
I told the woman if I knew this would happen I would have gone home that day and shaved them. I only got told it can be more painful, not that I would have repercussions.
The woman then gave me some burn cream in which I have to use once a day for a week. I then thought ‘aw do I have to pay for this now, even though this wasn’t suppose to happen’ but I didn’t have to pay.
If the burns don’t go away within a week I would have to come back.
First treatment pt.2
Since my legs are hair free I could get started.
I had a different woman for this treatment. She was wonderful, so chatty and caring.
She marked me up with a white pencil like they did on my arms and got started.
I thought the thighs would hurt since they said it was an area that many people tend to pigment on but it didn't hurt at all.
I was so chilled out on the chair; I just laid back and looked at my naturally tanned legs (sorry if I’m making you pasty white ladies feel bad) and I thought to myself, ‘wow this is what my legs are gunna look like forever.’ As I’m rushing to go out I would never have to worry about ‘ah have I shaved my legs?’ I guess that’s what it’s all about.
Like my arms, no pain occurred on my upper legs but once it reached the bony area of my lower legs that is where the pain kicked in. The pain seemed more frequent, possibly because it was a larger area so it kept constant.
The most painful areas were the bottom back of my leg that sticks out, the front of my leg where the bone rests against the skin and my toes. In other words, the bony ass areas. I remember thinking in my head ‘OWWWW!’ but I wasn’t like exactly I was jumping out my seat, but I flinched my feet as she did the bottom back bone area as that was kinda unbearable. I remember thinking ‘I’m actually happy to have some fat on my thighs!’
As I said the woman was great and after she finished she said ‘wow, you’ve done so well, didn’t even hear anything from you. I had one woman this morning who was screaming her head off!’
I don’t know she could have been thinner than me and was bonier or I am just a brave survivor. Yeah that sounds better, she wasn’t tough enough and I was yey!

Is this meant to happen?
Anyway, I had my arms done and I started to have red patches, I didn’t fret as I knew this was normal. As I left to make my way home I realised on that my arms were burning, but I just had lasers beaming against my skin so what do you expect?
After quite a few hours, they started to cool down but I noticed slight burn marks, but the woman said they often wash away. I was allowed to have a shower on the same day but not like a scorching hot one since my the skin needs time to cool. So I had a mildly cold shower and once the water hit my skin, it felt as though it was on fire!
As the first two days are important since you have to be responsible for your after care, I waited to see if my skin got any better with the creams and sprays I needed to use and if any queries occurred, I was always going back to sk:n for my leg treatment on the following Monday.
What to expect
Within two weeks the hair should start to fall out, since the first treatment only zaps the top of the hair, it doesn’t begin zapping it from the root until the next treatment.
As they use different strengths of heat temperatures depending on the fairness of the hair and skin tone, using a lower heat to begin with allows your skin not to panic, and then they rapidly increase the strength.
After the hair has fallen out, it will begin to grow back as the root has not been taken care off (ha sound like an assassin, I shall eliminate it straight away).
But the hair can be shaved or trimmed until the next treatments so don’t feel you have to put up with it just cos you’re having removal treatment.
So, if my calculations are correct, my treatment for my arms/underarms shall be finished in December 2008 and my legs will finish in March 2009.

Products
These are:
- aloe vera gel (100ml)
- thermal spray (150ml)
- aloe vera sunblock spf 30+ (100ml)
These cost £22, but with my 10% student discount it cost me £20. (the products may look different as they have changed the packaging but haven't changed them on the site).
(You may run out of these products but they can be bought from the website or the store...although my beautician friend said she could get me these products for a price next to nothing, so once I follow her up on this, I will let you know.)
For the FIRST TWO DAYS after the treatment, you apply the aloe vera gel then the thermal spray and then the sunblock, twice a day.
It didn’t help that I was at work at the weekend, and had to get up an extra 10 minutes early to do this aftercare treatment.
Then as the first two days has passed, you only need to apply the sunblock once a day throughout your treatment.
The first treatment
The woman looked at my arms and said my hair was quite long and said normally a couple of days beforehand they usually tell you to shave the area, but they didn’t tell me this!
She said I could either reschedule my appointment a couple days later after I have shaved my arms or they could still do the treatment today, although it may hurt a little more because of the hair length.
I travelled all that way…really early in the morning may I add cos that was when they could only book me in. So I thought, if the only reason for me to shave my arms was just cos it would hurt a bit more…then screw it, ill suck it up!
So finally, we could get started. The woman used a white pencil to make squares on my skin so she could keep track of the areas she has treated. Then, comes the laser. She began with my shoulder and worked her way down. I was thinking ‘this is nonsense this doesn’t hurt’ and just to think, they were considering sending me home.
A few strands of hair here and there are still attached but appear to be singed slightly, this is normal.
Well, once she finished with my upper arm she moved onto my lower arm. It actually started to hurt at this point, but only a bit. The pain only lasts a few seconds…well technically it’s more like the pain gets shifted. You may have pain in one spot but as soon as that pain goes away the pain moves to the next spot getting treated, but once that square section is done the pain gets relieved.
It wasn’t cos of my hair length this was happening to me, it was because the laser was treating a bony area of my arm. So overall it was going great. Fair enough I felt a little pain but it wasn’t enough for me to scream so loud the people in the waiting area could hear me.
BUT THEN – she was kind enough to do the slight hair on my hands and fingers and I am glad it was a small area cos MY GOD, it hurt! Aw the bones! But it was soon over and I was done, well the arm part of it anyway.
She then did my underarms, because it is a small area it was quick to do. She said most people often have pain in the middle of the armpit but I didn’t really have any problem.
She applied this gel and spray on the areas. I will talk about the products in my next blog.
Considering she said my arm hair were long I didn’t think she would be able to do my legs on the same day, as…lets just say they were kinda long (since I grew them out a bit thinking its like waxing, you cant get the hair properly if you only have the tip of the hair). She said they were quite long and would be best if I shaved them and made another appointment. So I made an appointment the following Monday for my legs.
Since this was my first treatment, with my 20% student discount it is: £1,675.20. (6 treatments) so I saved £419.00.
A full body with a 15% discount would be: £1,779.90
Saving: £314.10

Patch Test pt.2
Anyway the reason for all this was because with laser hair removal, the skin from the face and body react differently. As an example, the thighs are the most common place people tend to pigment (small dark marks occur, sometimes permanent, sometimes not! This is discussed during your consultation.)
Just seconds after I had my patch test on the side of my neck (don’t worry its not noticeable, but that’s why having long hair comes in handy), I was telling the woman why I decided to have the full body treatment, and then, what she said next kinda made me feel I wasted my time. She said on the full body the arms are not included.
This may not be a big deal for people like my friend who has pale skin as well as light ass blond hair, but for me it was a big deal. Not only is my hair darker, with me being Asian, but I have quite a lot of hair than the most women do on their arms (dam my dad’s genes!), and I considered my arms as an essential place I wanted treated.
… what to do?
Then I put my thinking hat on. My essential places I want treated are my arms, underarms and face. But even though my face is really important, in the back of my mind I am afraid if I pigment and if it becomes permanent, it will be obvious and also my hair is so fair it may not even work.
Although pigmentation just depends on the person, as they mentioned someone could do great on 5 treatments but then all of a sudden pigment on the 6th. But if we have learnt anything from society…there is also a price for beauty.
So I asked, if I cut out the face and bikini and have my full arms done would it work out the same. A weight was soon lifted when she said I could do so as money wise it worked out the same.
So before I made my official beginning of treatment appointment, yes that’s right, I once again messed around with prices to see if it actually works out better to get my arms, underarms and legs done altogether rather than separately.
And instead of boring you with my maths equations, all that brain power paid off as it did work out better to do the full body. I then figured, after this long process, if I feel I am satisfied with the treatment I may consider taking the risk and on my facial hair.
Figures and Numbers everywhere
After all this obsessive compulsive nature towards all these numbers, it paid off.
Yeah, fair enough, we know about all aspects of the treatment but money is also a big factor! This is not exactly like 'omg I’m so naughty I splurged yet again on another pair of shoes'…if it was like that, this is a lot of shoes!
I calculated all the treatments I wanted separately, but I noticed they do a full body treatment. So I asked what is in this, they said: face, underarms, arms, bikini and legs. So once again, I messed around with the figures.
Remember I get 20% discount on my first treatment, so instead of waiting for the 15% discount to come around, I could get the ultimate treatment, with the highest discount that is being offered to me.
Are you keeping up with me?
So long story short, I am going to save lots of money and get what I want!
Patch test
Before you get all excited and jump on the seat, as you go into the room to get your patch test done, you give the woman the contracts you were given after you had at your consultation, (I know I forgot to mention this but its not like one of those situations like ‘oh my god they want me to sign this because something will go wrong and I cant sue them if I sign’), the contract basically specifies the things you need to do as part of the treatment process. Things such as I will wear protective glasses during treatment, once you have had your treatment aftercare is the most important and that is left to you to do at home, so you agree to be responsible for that. It also mentions you may not always get the same person treating you during each of your visits…you know the usual.
There is another form you have to sign which is basically instructions like its best you wear loose clothing after treatment so fiction doesn’t occur and the after creams they give you should be used like recommended etc.
So, finally, the patch test…I rolled up my baggy jeans, they did a couple of zaps with a gun like thing that shoots the laser and blows cool air since the skin is being exposed to a high temperatures. I roll down my jeans and done and dusted. Apart from having a slight bald patch on my leg, it was a piece of cake.

Consultation
Step one - Consultation
This is where you go in and talk about anything you want to know, with one of the members of the team. They will talk you through about what happens, the prices, what areas you want treated and if there to see if they are treatable.
I had my consultation near the end of March 2008. They discussed prices with me, in my case it was more of a bargain as I was able to get student discount, YEY! With being a student I was able to receive 20% discount on my first treatment and from then onwards 10% all other treatments.
But don’t fret if you feel neglected here, because they are always doing 15% discounts all year round, so if you’re thinking about getting treatment done wait until the 15% discounts come along!
On average it takes 6 treatments for the process to be fully completed.
So say you wanted to get your upper lip done for instance, each time you get it done you can pay for it, or you can pay for 6 treatments altogether, allowing you to save money.
Just to make the treatment process more clear.
From you neck upwards, you will come in every 4 weeks (one a month) for 6 months (6 treatments).
Anything below neck/above waist will be treated once every 6 weeks for 6 treatments (9 months).
Anything below waist will be treated on every 8 weeks for 6 treatments (12 months).
Back to areas you’re thinking about getting treated; I thought my only problem with this hair removal idea would be difficulty would arise because of my skin tone. But this is not a problem as I said that’s why I decided to follow through on this, but the problem that did arise was that on other areas of my body such as my face, my hair is really fair and because of this it may not work.
…but keep reading and see what I decide.
Laser Hair Removal
With today’s society and all the perfected images of women in the media, we can’t help but feel we all would like to change something about ourselves.
But in some cases we may not have to go over the deep end and have a nip and a tuck.
Fair enough there are things I would like to change about myself but I think that's just human nature, but there is one main thing I would like to get rid off…my unwanted body hair.
Many of you may also feel the same way, as women are meant to look and feel 'feminine' which is why I have set up this blog as I am going to get treatment on my arms, legs and underarms. And instead of you just taking the word of the company or the people who work there, you can have a real person’s perspective and understand the process a little bit more.
I will discuss prices, treatment, and aftercare etc. just so you have all the information needed if you were thinking about doing this yourself.
Although it may seem like a female thing to do, but I have you know, men are able to get in done also, so don’t be ashamed if you want to boost your confidence as well guys.
I have been unhappy with my unwanted hair for years and the reason why I decided to go through with the treatment is because I heard good things about this place, more so as I heard they can actually work with people with darker skin tones.
The particular branch I will be going to is:
Sk;n
76 Grey Street,
Newcastle upon Tyne,
NE1 6AF
